A vibrant new addition has taken root near the reserve’s northeast corner, adjacent to the native display garden. With the support of the Westgate Tunnel Neighbourhood Grant and in collaboration with Hobsons Bay City Council, this wildflower planting area has come to life under the guidance of Nick from the Newport Lakes Native Nursery.
Building on groundwork completed by HBCC earlier in the year, a Mother’s Day frenzy of planting kicked off and was followed by two winter working bees. In total, approximately 1,200 native wildflowers were carefully transplanted into their new home.

As the new flower bed continues to flourish, our team has been dedicated to providing it with the TLC it needs to thrive. During spring working bees, we’ve ensured the area received adequate watering and hand-weeding to give these plants the best chance of success. The result is a stunning display of local flora that will delight visitors for years to come.
